Healthy Growth in 2010Plant Growth

Our 2010 fiscal year just ended on June 30th, and we'd like to take this time to thank everyone who contributed to MSHS. We're happy to report that we ended our fundraising year on a positive note. Individual gifts increased dramatically, with over 320 more people contributing to the cause of educating and inspiring gardeners. Although we didn't meet our goal - we raised $99,774.89 when our goal was $150,000 - we have high hopes for the year to come. Of our over 10,000 members and subscribers, 8% donated during this fiscal year. Our fundraising goal will remain at $150,000 in FY2011 because we're certain that our devoted members, subscribers and supporters will come forward and let everyone know through their contributions that gardening is not just a hobby - it's a way of life.

Gardening Tips
Rhubarb
Stop picking rhubarb early this month. It will allow energy to gather the rest of the summer to be stored for next year's growth.

Side dress tomato plants with a  little extra fertilizer once they start blooming. Too much fertilizer only encourages more leafy growth. If your tomatoes are in containers, fertilize every week or two.

Water gardens and lawns during the day when temperatures are at their lowest. Otherwise, much of the water will evaporate.
